The Comsewogue School District Board of Education recently recognized almost sixty students at its monthly meeting on Monday, June 10, 2024.
Comsewogue High School Valedictorian Jackeline Antelo and Salutatorian Alexander Kosak each received a plaque from the Board of Education for their academic, extra-curricular and community accomplishments. The five executive board members of the Virtual Enterprise Firm “Gimme Golf,” Brayden Arias, Kaeden West, Sophia Deja, Kyle Buck and Vincent Cutaia, were recognized for finishing 11th place nationally out of over 1,000 firms.
At Comsewogue High School, two seals are currently offered that can be added to a graduate’s diploma. The first, Seal of Civic Readiness, was given to three students who demonstrate a high level of proficiency in terms of civic knowledge, civic skills, civic mindset, and civic experiences. The second, the Seal of Biliteracy, recognizes students who demonstrate a high level of proficiency in English and in one other World Language. This year, we proudly awarded this seal to nineteen students: Burcu Ak, Kyle Buck, Gianna Carpino, Jordyn Hesselbarth, Taylor Ladani, Juliana Ladani, Kyle Danowski, Riley Candreva, Karla Palta, Anabel Hernandez Ramirez, Madison Maida, Shamal Jahan, Elanaz Karaarslan, Jackeline Antelo, Mia Tsaktsirlis, William Graziano, Samantha Cardarelli, Julianna Lanze and Amberly Suquilanda.
Five students from the Comsewogue High School Italian program also recently won a medal for participating in the National Italian Exam. Four students won a bronze medal: Riley Candreva, Michael Grzin, Lianette Maldonado and LiRianny Tineo and Emily Silva won a silver medal.
Ava Garcia, a student at JFK Middle School, was honored for her work with Angela's House, which runs homes for medically fragile children and adults. In the winter, Ava and JFK teacher Dr. Melissa McMullan reached out to Angela's House, and ultimately scheduled meetings with them to identify ways in which our students could support the houses and their residents. Ava settled on two projects one making support pillows the residents needed and the other being 100 gift bags that will be distributed to residents and their families at their annual Family Day in June.
Crisleidy Fernandez, lsaely Santa Cepeda, and Dianelis Nunez are in an after school club run by Heather Rand at JFK Middle School called the “Take a Look at Teaching Club." During this club the students work together to plan and come up with activities for the students in the 12:1:1 life skills classroom. The students organized engaging activities such as egg hunts, crafting Christmas ornaments, and reading to the students.
Students who were a part of the Mascot/Logo Leadership Team were also recognized during the meeting. Throughout the year, these students participated in numerous meetings to gather information and words that best describe who we are as a district, which led to the mascot name choices and finally the winning name “Spartans” after a community vote. Shamal Jahan, Brady Stonehill, Jake Sparhuber, Kylie Schlosser, Giovanni Aliperti, Erini Lioudakis, Tess Myers, Layla Preddice, Riley Ruplin, Areem Shahid, Sadie Abram, Draven O’Brien, Raquel Almeida, Philip DeGorter, Kayden Drake, Veronica Udovich, Katie Daly, Harper Witt, Michael Monteptit, William Lupinacci, and Brielle Desmar. Philip O’Brien from Boyle Road Elementary School was also recognized at the meeting for his contributions to his class’ Joe’s Day of Service and his utilization of Canva for the project.
