The Comsewogue High School Student Drama Club recently dazzled the community with their exciting spring production of The Wizard of Oz. Before their opening night performance, the cast visited the District’s kindergarten and first-grade students at Clinton Avenue Elementary School and Norwood Avenue Elementary School.

“Our community’s youngest students were so excited to meet with the stars of our high school’s production of The Wizard of Oz before seeing them in action at the high school,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jennifer Quinn. “It was an amazing opportunity for our older students to inspire and motivate our younger ones, some of whom are already eager to become actors and join the Drama Club when they get to high school.”

Glinda the Good Witch, Dorothy, the Cowardly Lion, the Tin Man and the Scarecrow arrived in full costume and read aloud from The Wizard of Oz children’s book before taking turns answering questions from students. The cast, under the direction of advisor Rebecca Herhson, shared what inspired them to become actors, described the audition process and detailed everything that goes into making the play possible—from rehearsals to their curtain call.

The Drama Club performs one musical each year, in addition to a fall and spring play. Students sharpen their acting skills, while learning about lighting, choreography, stage direction and more.
