The New York Islanders selected a Comsewogue School District elementary school librarian as the team’s Teacher of the Month for October 2023. Boyle Road Elementary School Librarian Nicole Taormina was nominated for this recognition by her peers, students, and the community. Nominating criteria included how the educator impacts the broader community and what makes them a special teacher.

Taormina has been teaching for 22 years and also serves as the student council advisor at Boyle Road Elementary School. In an interview with the Islanders, Taormina said that if she played hockey, she would play goalie. “I would like to help my team the best way I could,” she said. “Plus," she added, "I wouldn’t have to skate that much!”

“Nicole has had a positive impact on generations of students who have passed through the Boyle Road library doors,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jennifer Quinn. “While Nicole is an avid Islanders fan, what earned her this well-deserved recognition is her absolute commitment to the students of Boyle Road and the greater Comsewogue School District community.”
