Terryville Students Compete in Lego Robotics Challenge

Posted Date: 02/13/26 (11:00 AM)

The Comsewogue Codelets made their debut as fifth grade students at Terryville competed for the first time in Long Island's First LEGO League qualifier competition on Saturday, February 7. As part of the tournament, students collaborated to build a robot powered by the LEGO Spike program. They coded the robot to complete different challenges related to First's "Unearthed" theme. In the months leading up to the competition, students met after school to learn about archeology and other careers related to the theme, practice the missions and find "bugs" or errors in their code, and complete an "innovation" research project to come up with a solution to problems that real professionals face in the field of archeology that can be solved with technology. Students also worked hard to embrace the core values of the First LEGO League, discovery, innovation, impact, inclusion, teamwork, and fun! As they embraced those core values, they showed their positive sportsmanship to other teams by distributing buttons with positive messages on them to their competitors, which were graciously made for the team by library helpers at Boyle Road Elementary and John F. Kennedy Middle School, making this an experience that touched many parts of our community!
